About ART® (Active Release Techniques®)

As part of his comprehensive practice, Dr. Anselmi offers Active Release Techniques® (ART), a patented, soft tissue movement and stretching technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves.

Overuse of muscles can cause your body to produce tough, dense scar tissue. As scar tissue builds up, muscles become shorter and weaker, tension on tendons causes tendonitis and nerves can become trapped. This can cause reduced range of motion, loss of strength and pain. If a nerve is trapped, you may also feel tingling, numbness and weakness.

Each ART® session combines examination and treatment. At the beginning of each appointment, Dr. Anselmi evaluates the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves in the affected area. He treats any abnormalities with a combination of precisely directed tension and very specific patient movements. Dr. Anselmi is well versed in the more than 500 specific movements that are unique to ART® treatment protocols and custom designs a unique approach to each individual patient.

The History of Active Release Techniques®
ART was developed, refined and patented by P. Michael Leahy, DC, CCSP of Colorado Springs, CO. Utilizing his background in aeronautical engineering and anatomy, Dr. Leahy developed ART to treat soft tissue problems, which were not responding to other traditional treatments. Dr. Leahy noticed that his patients' symptoms seemed to be related to changes in their soft tissue that could be felt by hand. By observing how muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves responded to different types of work, Dr. Leahy was able to resolve over 90% of his patients' problems. He now teaches and certifies health care providers all over the world to use ART®.

    Patient Testimonial

"Dr. Anselmi's technique was slightly different than with my previous experience, but the concept is exactly the same. And I'll tell you, when I left his office, my right leg felt like a million bucks! In fact, my leg felt so good after the treatment that I had to stop and randomly step-up on stuff while walking home. A park bench - no pain. A fire stand-pipe - no pain. My front steps - NO PAIN! Squatting down for fun - no pain. Now, don't get the wrong idea, this is not a one treatment sort of fix; I'm going back to see Dr. Anselmi next week for another appointment. But, I can't tell you how excited I am to already feel more relief in one hour than I've felt in the past 4 or 5 years of seeing chiropractors and being treated for spinal subluxations."
